Belden Launches New Alternative to Mechanical Splice with FX Fusion Splice-On Connector
Connectors precisely align fibers with an automated alignment process
Belden Inc., a global leader in signal transmission solutions for mission-critical applications, has launched its FiberExpress (FX) Fusion Splice-On Connector as an alternative to mechanical splice options.
Because the field-installable FX Fusion Splice-On Connector precisely aligns fibers with an automated alignment process, it provides better performance than a mechanical splice, with maximum insertion loss of 0.20 dB as compared to 0.50 dB (OM4). Automated splicing tools provide consistent, reliable and high-quality terminations.
Installation speed, accuracy and performance are also improved, with no crimping, polishing or adhesives required for termination. Fewer splice management accessories are also required during installation – the FX Fusion Splice-On Connector eliminates the need for splice enclosures and splice trays. The fiber ferrule is ready for termination, with a pre-cleaved and pre-cleaned fiber stub. The connector also allows exact channel lengths to be run, eliminating cable shorts and excess slack.
The FX Fusion Splice-On Connector can be used with nearly all fusion splicers, and is ideal for indoor and outdoor applications, meeting both ANSI/TIA-568-D3 and GR-326/1081 requirements (as of Summer 2017). LC 900um connectors are now available in OM1, OM3/4, OM4, OS2 or OS2 APC versions. Standard and precision installation toolkits are also available, along with standard and precision cleavers and universal splice holders.
Future additions to the FX Fusion Splice-On Connector are planned in 2017, including SC 900um connectors, LS/SC jacketed connectors and FX Fusion splicers.

Monitor Audio’s IV140 Sets New Audio Benchmark for Concealed Installations
The new IV140 Invisible Speaker from Monitor Audio is designed to deliver ‘best in class’ audio performance in concealed in-wall and in-ceiling applications. The IV140 meets the demands of designers, installers and end users by providing ultimate discretion, easy to fit installation and high performance.
Concealed in walls or in ceilings, the speaker fits into all conventional 4” stud bays, leaving enough room for cabling. Once installed and skimmed with plaster, the speaker is completely out of sight, with paint, light wallpaper or fabric hiding it from view. The IV140 features a large low-frequency transducer for punchy, high powered bass along with two high frequency transducers which are bonded to a flat, soft polymer membrane surface to produce sound vibration. An integrated ‘hybrid’ back box design (fully sealed or open-back) isolates sound and ensures consistent, controlled performance. 48-channel capability: In less than three years, the Trinnov Audio Altitude32 has unquestionably become the premiere product within the high-end AV Processor market.
Some thought that a surround preamp that could render as many as 32 discrete channels of Dolby Atmos® was a bit extravagant. Even the team at Trinnov has been a bit surprised by the powerful response to their flagship 32-channel configuration.
