AtlasIED Hires Tom Kachnik as Western Region Sales Manager for Transportation Solutions

To further demonstrate its commitment to its customers, AtlasIED, a global electronics manufacturer providing comprehensive audio, communications, and security solutions for commercial markets, announced the hiring of Tom Kachnik as Transportation Sales Manager for the Western United States. Kachnik will focus on increasing the adoption of AtlasIED’s transportation solutions in the region, including the GLOBALCOM enterprise communications platform.  

Kachnik is an audio industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience in enterprise communications systems. He has developed and deployed large audiovisual systems across North America, including projects for Caesars Entertainment, Google, MGM, and Facebook.  Prior to joining AtlasIED, Kachnik served as General Manager for Integration and Live Production at Solotech, a Montreal-based global systems integration and staging company. Prior to joining Solotech, Kachnik held positions with a variety of audio companies including PSX, Ford Audio-Visual and Plus 4 Marketing.

AC-DANTE-AMP-2CH: AVPro Edge’s 2Ch Dante Amplifier

The AC-DANTE-AMP-2CH is a combination 25W/RMS (@4 W, 12.5 W/RMS @ 8 W) 2-channel local audio power amplifier and Dante Audio/AES67 decoder, supporting sampling rates of 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, and 96kHz with 16-, 24-, and 32-bit word lengths encoded as either the Dante audio or AES67 format. Encrypted Dante audio information is input via the designated Dante Audio network RJ45 network port, undergoes decoding from Dante digital into analog, and outputs a speaker-level signal from a pair of secured, 2-pin terminal block connectors, plus line-level audio by way of a 5-pin terminal block connector.

Utilizing Audinate’s newest Ultimo chip, the AC-DANTE-AMP-2CH is designed to accommodate two Dante plug-and-play audio flows with very low latency and microsecond synchronization. Line-out cascades the signal to additional analog amplifiers from a single Dante endpoint. Flexible placement options are made possible by the compact, thin profile footprint.

Cable Lengths for 12G-SDI Applications

Bandwidth demand is scaling rapidly as the industry welcomes cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence and high-definition video.

While applications involving 3G-SDI and 6G-SDI bandwidths are still prevalent today, a new SDI standard has entered the scene. 12G-SDI supports a data rate of roughly 12 Gb/s; it enables 4K and 8K video transmission.

In terms of planning, equipment and deployment, 3G-SDI and 6G-SDI applications are straightforward. Projects that require 12G-SDI support, however—such as those incorporating professional cameras and displays, production/post systems and format converters, routers and servers—may create distance challenges you need to consider before investing in design and equipment.

Some designers use fiber cabling to achieve longer distances in 12G-SDI applications, but there are quite a few applications where coax is still the best fit.

With all these choices, designers need a way to determine how far they can run each cable type. Belden created an Estimated Transmission Distance Chart based on cable loss values for given formats as specified by SMPTE.

Why Wireless Accessories Are Essential,

Wireless mics perform much better than they did even 5 or so years ago. But in the past 10 years there have been changes to how wireless mics can operate here in the USA. That leaves us with much less available bandwidth in which to operate.

The good news is that we expect the current generation of wireless mics to be able to operate properly and reliably under most circumstances. The bad news is that we almost always need to operate them using all the best practices and tools at our disposal. And most often that means we need to use accessories that were not needed in days past.

Maybe you have a wireless system that has operated flawlessly for the past 10 years but now you are starting to have reliability problems. Today’s airwaves are not the same as those of past years.

In many metro areas you now have only 6% of the available open space in which to tune your mics to. And if that wasn’t enough we now have interference from 5G cell phones and from LED lighting and video monitors spilling over into the precious little bandwidth we have left.

This is why accessories (directional antennas, distros and bandpass filters) have become essential. In days past the little whip antennas that came with your mic receiver probably got you up and running. But now they are most often not enough to ensure reliable operation.

Now Shipping! Theory Audio Design’s First Architectural Subwoofers

Premium audio brand, Theory Audio Design has announced the iws12-6 and iws12-9 – the company’s first architectural subwoofers – are now shipping. Equipped with 12-inch, 1,400 Watt, 4-inch voice coil long throw woofers, and the ability to be installed in-wall, on-wall, in-room, ceiling mounted, or flown, there isn’t an installation environment Theory’s new subwoofer models cannot handle. 

The iws12-6 includes an enclosure that can be installed flush into 2x6 stud walls, or surface mounted with only 5.5-inches of total depth. The optional low-profile paintable, perforated grille allows the subwoofer to completely disappear within any environment. 

At 34-inches wide, 14-inches high, and only 9-inches in depth, and with an optional smart yoke bracket, the iws12-9 can be wall mounted, ceiling mounted, or flown. It can also simply be placed on the floor and used as an in-room subwoofer where a compact, high-performance subwoofer is desired.

Theory’s iws12-6 and iws12-9 install subwoofers deliver deep, visceral bass that bellies intuition, extending deeper and with more authority than seems possible from their ultra-compact enclosures, and they’re the perfect complement to Theory full range speakers to create a truly astonishing high-energy environment.

RTI Continues Strengthening Sales Team

New AV-Ops Center Powers Remote Monitoring and Management for Symetrix and Third-Party AV Devices

Symetrix has expanded availability of AV-Ops Center, the first remote monitoring and management tool specifically created to optimize Composer-based DSP audio and control systems. AV-Ops Center is a cloud-based service that receives telemetry from the system components and provides real-time metrics via an intuitive dashboard. Additionally, the system can send pre-set and custom commands to remote devices to optimize performance or troubleshoot.

“We’ve focused on specific measurements and workflows that benefit AV integrators and users,” said Quinn Klarer, Product Manager. “Using map-based, multi-site monitoring, our customers deliver premium support from anywhere using any modern web browser.”
